Hey hey!! Long time no see! For my first blog back from a very long hiatus, I thought I'd write about what a newborn session is like with yours truly!
First off, having a session in your own home is always an option, but more often than not, I have them in my studio right outside of Billings, MT. So let's back up a step...you're pregnant!! Congrats! haha!! If you're here you maybe you googled me or maybe you have a friend who had pictures taken by me, anyway you found me, welcome!!! I'm so happy you're here!!! Being pregnant was one of my favorite things and babies....well I'm obsessed. :) I actually have a package for maternity and newborn sessions to make it easier!! You can find that and the rest of my pricing investments here... and while you're looking around here is my baby portfolio!
Ok, so you got a hold of me and we booked your maternity photos, maybe somewhere around 32ish weeks (I had two of my babies at 33&5 and 34 weeks, so I missed maternity photos with them!!) next we put a rough due date in pencil on my calendar. I like to photograph newborns within the first couple of weeks if possible. Once the baby arrives, you can get a hold of me and we can make firm plans about the shoot. I'll have you bring any items that are special to you or your baby, but I have a good selection of swaddles, bows, etc.
Once you get to my newborn studio, which is attached to the shop on my property just outside of Billings, MT, you'll walk into my warm little happy place haha! I will have a few 'stations' set up. I have a cozy bed for snuggling with your family, a brick wall, white shiplap walls, wood floors, and also a gray couch! Many options for different backdrops! I'll have you chose the swaddle and accessories you like and if baby has a full belly and is feeling snoozy, I'll get to work!! Of course if siblings are here too, I will photograph everyone as well!! I am a baby led photographer, and what that means is, if baby is fussy or not having it, I'm not going to push it. If baby is happier snuggled right into mama, then that's what we roll with. If baby is zonked out and I can do whatever we want, I roll with that as well. I want this to be a very relaxed, special moment. You just made a human after all!! (If you or dad want to take a nap on the couch or bed while I work, hey, that's fine too haha!!)
Plan to leave a few hours open on your schedule because sometimes babies are on their own timeline and we have to be patient to get them to relax and get nice and snoozy. That's fine, we are not in a hurry!! Once your session is over, and I get my baby fix :) I will send you on your way and run as fast as I can into my house and upload your photos to my computer, and then I will ooh and awe over your family and I'll probably chose one photo I can't resist editing right away to text to you. It's just what I do, I can't help it!! After that, I will finish the sessions I'm currently editing and then I will get to work on yours! It depends on the season I'm in as far as how busy my work load is. I edit all of the images myself and I don't like to rush that, I'm also a mama of 3 kids who are active in all sorts of extracurriculars so......what I'm trying to say is I don't have a rigid timeframe for when you will get your photos back but normally I can say around 2-3 weeks, but we will stay in touch when the time comes!!!
I hope that answers a few of your newborn session questions, and if you have any other questions, feel free to reach out any way you want! My email is vanessaphillipsphoto@gmail.com, or you can contact me here, or you could send me a DM to either my Instagram or my Facebook Page.
Thank you for stopping by, and I truly hope I get to see you soon!!!
Bye!!
XOXO
